Travel tips for Bali

We've been to Bali quite a few times now. This time, however, it was something different and with a completely different purpose than a normal holiday. Some of us have already returned to Denmark and everyday life has slowly started again. This time in Bali, however, we had a few days to experience more in Bali than shops, negotiate prices etc.

However, we managed to do some new things and eat some new places while we were here and therefore thought it might be interesting for some of you to read a little about - if you are travelling to these parts one day. Here you have at least some inspiration and recommendations.

First and foremost, we can definitely recommend buying a SIM card as you then have the opportunity to use the Gojek/Grab app. Here you can save a lot of money on transport, whether by car or scooter. The price is agreed in advance and you won't be cheated when you book it through the app. However, it does require an Indonesian phone number (hence the SIM card). However, it's a good idea to have some change on you when travelling on smaller trips, as they don't always have enough change to give back. It is also possible to order food via this app.

We have, among other things, walked a few different routes along the way in Ubud and walked around the market.

- Sweet Orange Walk Trail (by far the best and friendliest of them!!), Campuhan Ridge Walk (here you have to be prepared to go back the same way you just went to get back to the centre)

- Ubud Art Market

We have eaten at a lot of delicious restaurants and cafes in various places. See them below. Total win that no one got a bad stomach (Bali belly), as there has just been a run on every day in one way or another.

Ubud:

- Simply Social, Milk & Madu, Ayoo Ayoo, Blend Café, Oakberry, Warung Siam and Fold.

Seminyak:

- The Corner House, Italian Way, Santorini.

Canggu:

Copenhagen, Oakberry, Milk & Madu, Baked, Crate Café.

A good idea for activities is to hire a driver for the day and then head out to what you want to see. You can do this through many hotels/homestays or simply on the street at one of the many stalls. Other activities we have done in Bali (though not all of them this time - as there wasn't enough time):

ATV, Riverrafting, Jungle Cart (around Ubud - can also be done from other cities), Surfing (Seminyak, Canggu, Kuta and Gili Islands), Diving, Snorkelling (Gili Islands + Nusa Islands), Waterbom (Waterpark in Kuta), Turtle sanctuary (Gili Meno, which is a very small place and only owned and run by a local man), various beaches and viewpoints around Bali, Gili Islands, Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan.

Seen Legong Dance (their traditional dance and music in Ubud, can also be experienced in several places), as well as various temples, waterfalls and rice fields.

Visited GWK Cultural Park (Garuda Wisnu Kencana), which consists of a huge park with large statues. The world's third largest statue can be found here and can be seen from the airport, Seminyak, Kuta and more.

On the Gili Islands you don't need to rent a boat or go snorkelling, you can easily see turtles without it and just swim around by yourself. If you want to see the statues and the shipwreck, it's a good idea to rent a boat to avoid using too much effort. We did both as there was a lot of current in the water.

We would definitely recommend the Gili Islands if you want a bit of peace and relaxation, as there are not many cars on the islands, but horse-drawn carriages, bicycles etc. It's super cosy and really worth a visit.

You can easily find a local man on the beach who can take you to the other Gili islands, you don't have to wait for the bigger boats. The islands are not that far apart.

ATTENTION. When you arrive at the different islands, you also have to pay a tax/fee at the harbour. This varies from island to island. There is also an extra charge to get to various beaches in Uluwatu.
