The year that passed π₯³
We started our journey in November 2023, there were a lot of preparations, papers and meetings etc. that needed to be organised, confirmed and approved before the project could really get started. The actual construction project didn't start until the beginning of 2024.
Sometimes it can feel like the project is at a standstill, but when we look back at the year as a whole - a lot has happened. We've put together some highlights from each month of the year that we think give a good overview
At the end of January 2024, we received the first materials; cement, jacks, machines etc. Thomas was in the Maldives for 38 days in January and February. π΄π₯₯
In February they prepared to add the first of our floors. We took over an ongoing project at the time. Therefore, what was already built was based on old floor plans and not the way we wanted it. It therefore required a lot of changes. Thomas travelled to Thailand to buy more materials for the project in the form of various pipes. π©΅π«§
In March, the first columns were cast, as well as the first floor. We changed the floor plan and built according to it.
In April, the materials that Thomas bought in Thailand were shipped. In addition, our website went live. βοΈ
May saw the publication of the first article about us in Aarhus Stiftstidende, which later became another one. The materials from Thailand arrived in Maafushi. ποΈπΊ
In June, more floors were added and the walls were built on the existing floors. π
July meant summer holidays for us. It was time to come down and check on the project, take various measurements, etc. You can talk about how much holiday was taken, but it was a break from everyday life. We got all the walls built up and they started plastering the walls, grooving in for power etc πΈπ©·
August was spent on new experiences, friendships and surprises. We had meetings and spent a lot of time with our business partner ππ¬
In September, we got regular updates on the construction and planned what to buy in China π₯΅
We travelled to China in October with our partner Ali and bought a lot of different things for the hotel. Among other things, we bought crockery for the restaurant, mattresses, tiles, windows and much more.
In November, Thomas went to London for a travel fair. Here he met with a lot of people from Maafushi, including the sports minister, the mayor and our partner. He got to talk to a lot of different people, which we'll hopefully tell you more about later in the new year β¨
December was the month where everything we bought in China was put into production, some was finished, some was shipped. We received paint and putty in the Maldives that we had bought on another island in the Maldives. π²π»
Thank you so much for following along for so long. We hope to see many of you in the Maldives in the summer of 2025 π
