About the local island, Thinadhoo
Thinadhoo is a local island in Maldives, located in Vaavu Atoll, approximately 407 km south of the capital Malé. The island covers an area of 1,192 km² with a length of 1,560 km and a width of 0.922 km.the island has a rich history and was formerly known as Havaru Thinadhoo, the traditional seat of the atoll chief. In 1962 the island was forcibly depopulated and completely destroyed, but has since been rebuilt and developed. 🏝️🌺
Today, Thinadhoo offers various facilities including a kindergarten, school and university/college campuses such as the National University of Maldives Thinadhoo Campus and Avid College.
For visitors, Thinadhoo offers an authentic Maldivian experience with beautiful beaches and local guesthouses. 🐚👙 There are also various birds/parrots that occasionally fly around the island.
We have visited Thinadhoo ourselves, which we think has a fantastic bikini beach. Thinadhoo also has a lot of palm trees. They also make a special coconut ice cream that is made in the shell of a coconut. The coconuts they use are all from the island. 🌴🥥 It really is one of the nicest local islands we've been to. It's also very quiet and peaceful as you don't see as many locals or scooters as you do on Maafushi. in addition, you can't directly see the buildings on the island for the palm trees as they don't build as high and the island is not as big as Maafushi.
We love to stay in different places and see/experience new things. On Thinadhoo you can see rays and sharks almost right at the water's edge, as well as on Fulidhoo (which is closer to Maafushi) if you don't want a longer journey/tour, but just want surrounding islands. ☀️
There is also a resort on Thinadhoo, but as it's a local island, you can't drink alcohol there.
Our partner, @shadowpalmmaldives, has combined some of the islands around the island they have named "Jack Sparrow Island". To experience these islands, you can take the Jack Sparrow tour with Shadowpalm. They have the following local islands included in the tour; Thinadhoo, Felidhoo & Keyodhoo. (You can read more about the other islands by clicking on the name of the island) on the Jack Sparrow tour you will not only experience different local islands, but also a shipwreck that has turned 180 degrees due to weather conditions in January 2025. What was above water is now under water. The ship is somewhat damaged by the storm, but it is still possible to get great pictures at the "top" of the wreck, as many of the loose boards have fallen to the bottom.
One visit to Maafushi can lead to many places in the Maldives and a whole lot of unforgettable experiences! 😍 We hope this has inspired you to get out and experience something different and go on a trip to the Maldives 🩵🦋
