About the local island, Felidhoo


Felidhoo is a Maldivian island located in the Vaavu Atoll, known for its beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and tranquil atmosphere. The island is home to a small local community where fishing and traditional culture play a central role. felidhoo measures around 0.3 km² (300,000 m²). It is approximately 700 metres long and 200 metres wide. Despite its size, the island is the main island of Vaavu Atoll and is home to a small local population. The island is easy to explore on foot and you can walk from one end to the other in a few minutes. There are a few restaurants around the island, as well as an ATM. 🐚👙🌴

When travelling to and from Felidhoo, you can take the local ferry (a longer trip) and speedboat. However, the local ferry is cheaper and you can also take it to Maafushi. However, be aware that it doesn't run every day and only at certain times.

As the Maldives is a Muslim country, visitors are expected to dress modestly outside the bikini beaches and respect local customs. Alcohol is prohibited on local islands like Felidhoo. Felidhoo is ideal for travellers seeking an authentic and peaceful experience in the Maldives, away from the more touristy areas.

You can visit Felidhoo by taking a tour with Shadowpalm, which also takes you around other neighbouring islands. 🏝️🌺☀️

Vaavu Atoll consists of 5 inhabited islands and around 17 uninhabited islands. The 5 inhabited islands are; Felidhoo, Keyodhoo, Fulidhoo, Rakeedhoo and Thinadhoo (read more about the neighbouring islands by clicking on the island you want to know more about). Vaavu Atoll is approximately 1.5-2 hours by boat from Malé and covers approximately 270 square kilometres (including the sea area) 🩵🦋
