We have been to the Maldives quite a few times, both on a resort island, but also on a local island. Both places have something for everyone. We have had Jane's parents with us on Maafushi (local island) and then of course we have had our own children with us 🌴🤿
We've seen families with children of all ages and have several friends with younger children who have visited Maafushi. There are a lot of opportunities for various activities on the island 🏝️☀️
In addition, we also plan to create a kind of "CLUB" with a lot of different activities that you can participate in. It can be anything from making bracelets, to drawing/colouring drawings, playing games, volleyball tournaments, football matches etc. We want it to be different from day to day, depending on what is possible so as not to have too many things going on at once. The idea with this is also that it should be child-friendly, but of course you can also participate in the different activities as a young person/adult 🌺🌸 We try to make it exciting for all ages and include everyone who wants to participate 🤪
We want to do the above so that you can relax on the beach without worrying about your children or that you can all do a different family activity that is not offered anywhere else on the island. Of course, it's also so that there's something happening on the island and you can do something other than going on day trips with our partner, try your hand at various water sports if you're not so fond of water or if you just fancy something different 🩵
It's possible to experience a lot more local traditions on a local island rather than a resort island. Here you can see the local fishermen bringing in fish early in the morning and you can also experience their Eid celebrations (see here - link to Cultural experiences) depending on when you are on the island. In addition, it is possible to visit their cultural centre, which just opened in September 2024. It's their kind of "Old Town" that we have in Aarhus 🥥🫧
Another option on the local island, Maafushi, that you might not know about is that you can easily get married or organise various kinds of surprises. For example, we organised a surprise for Jane's parents for their 45th wedding anniversary. We coloured the coconuts and wrote with them in the sand. Thomas also surprised Jane right away on their 23rd anniversarybryllupsdag✈️
