Bikes and tuk tuks are the most commonly seen
Maafushi is a relatively small island. It is approximately 1.2 kilometres long and 0.3 kilometres wide.
There are only 5 cars on the island and a few work vehicles. Many goods are transported by bicycle and the small, agile tuk tuk vehicles. You can fit a lot on a bicycle and a tuk tuk when packed correctly π.
It's nice to walk around and watch life in the streets. The heat means that many things happen at a slightly slower pace than we know at home, but the people are incredibly diligent, kind and helpful so there's plenty going on. It's also fun to see how they build. We've been building the hotel and had various machines/tools, cement etc. delivered to the island. Our craftsmen are also transporting building materials to the hotel via work vehicles and good man-power muscles are also in use everywhere. We're getting closer and closer day by day, but there's still a long way to go πͺ
In the evenings, there's a lot of music around the water sports resorts, which also creates a cosy and festive atmosphere. The Maldives is great all year round. We have been there in the following months; January, February, March, June, July, August, October, November.
When you want to see the island yourself, we suggest you either walk around or rent a bike or a small bike cart as that is also an option π€©.
However, you can also take a taxi in the form of a tuk tuk around the island if you don't want to walk/bike. There are only tiles at the harbour and the rest of the streets around the island are sand.
