What to do in the evening?
On Maafushi it gets dark early - just like you might know it from Thailand. And when it's dark, it's DARK ๐.
Many people have asked us what about mosquitoes when it gets dark? We think the Maldives is the exotic country we've travelled to where mosquitoes are the least annoying. The Maldives is one of the best places we've been in relation to mosquitoes. We have almost never been bitten by mosquitoes and if we have, they have disappeared in a short time. Mosquito bites haven't itched and we haven't used anything special to protect ourselves. But of course it's always smart and nice to have a mosquito spray with you.
When darkness falls, you can, for example:
Walking: Explore the island in the evening atmosphere, it's cosy and the locals like to have a good chat, they are social and friendly.
Eating local cuisine: savour Maldivian food at the local restaurants and try the seafood. They also offer a lot of other food, so there's something for everyone. We will have a restaurant at our hotel that you can use.
Sunset tours: Take a fishing trip to experience the breathtaking views from the water and watch the beautiful sunset (you might be lucky enough to see dolphins)
Evening fishing or sunset boat trips are also available - here's a photo of evening fishing organised by our partners Shadowpalm. The best tour company on Maafushi is Shadompalm.
You can also take an evening dip, the sea is warm around the clock โค๏ธ. Don't forget your swimwear... remember to respect the local rules and culture during your visit to Maafushi๐ค
