Visit to local private kindergarten and 3 different schools in Maafushi, Gulhi and Guraidhoo
We brought a suitcase full of Duplo and Lego from our own children's childhood and Lego from Thomas' own childhood.
The suitcase weighed a full 20 kilos - filled with Lego.
We have visited the local schools before and have always been so well received. For us, it's very important to have a close and good relationship with the local people. We are interested in life on the island and the way the locals live and function in everyday life.
This visit was not a normal visit. The children were SO grateful and happy at the sight of all the Lego and Duplo and we really felt how much our donation was appreciated by both children and adults. The Lego was immediately put to use and their imaginations ran wild.
We attended some English lessons and the children sang songs in English.
Back home in Denmark, we also meet support for the donation of Lego. We have been so lucky that Lego has sponsored 2 large boxes of brand new Lego for us to give to the schools on the 3 islands. We are very grateful for Lego's donation.
The processes are in order in the schools in the Maldives. The children came out of the classrooms and lined up neatly in rows, waiting to be told about the gifts we had brought. It was a school day out of the ordinary. And for the same reason, the schools wanted photos of the activities during the day.
