Big Gamefishing - first time ever

There's a first time for everything. We've never gamefished before, so now was the time. We had heard that there was a huge amount of tuna not far from Maafushi, so now was the time. When we finally got out to all the other fishing boats, we looked in the water and out of the blue there was a "Mobula ray" that we had never seen before. It was an extra little bonus on the trip ๐Ÿฉต

Anyway, now to the fishing itself. None of us are experienced fishermen and have only tried sunset fishing on Maafushi once in a while. However, it's something completely different. Both are something that anyone can do regardless of experience. However, there is a big difference in price between sunset fishing and game fishing, as game fishing is often more hours, further away and with much more equipment. These are real fishing rods, whereas sunset fishing is a line that you reel in and out yourself โ˜€๏ธ

Thomas & Alexander ended up catching some pretty big tuna. One around 15-20kg and the other around 25kg. However, we found that it's much easier to catch the fish when the hook isn't in their tail ๐Ÿ˜‚

The fish that Thomas caught had the hook in its tail and it was quite a struggle ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ We other girls didn't try to fish, but were just there for the company and the experience. There was no time for more as we left quite late and it was starting to get pretty dark.

It was a great experience for everyone regardless of whether anything was caught or not ๐Ÿคฉ

The joy of seeing all the other locals in the other boats catching fish was enormous. They were ecstatic about it themselves and they pulled up one tuna after another, which is just so cool to see. It was a total sport and it just gives a very special energy to everyone who is part of it. It was very different how the fishing boats looked and how many people were on each boat.

We had a private boat where it was just our family, a captain and a helper on board. Activities like this are much cheaper on local islands than resort islands. We saw the price of going game fishing from a resort and what a difference in price. It was at least twice as expensive as from the local island.

If you want to catch smaller fish and want to be away for a shorter time, then sunset fishing is the way to go.
