Our adventure

We are a Danish family, Jane and Thomas Olesen from Lystrup in the north of Aarhus, where we run a bakery and bakery shop. Our children are grown and have partly moved away from home.

We have travelled a lot with our children over the past many years. This has included many trips to the Maldives, which is why we have now embarked on a family adventure with our children to build and run a Danish πŸ‡©πŸ‡° hotel on Maafushi Maldives.

The hotel

We bought and took over a hotel building that was well underway and up to 3 storeys high.

The hotel was a largely raw shell when we took it over, which made it possible to radically change the floor plan, facade, window sizes, etc.

We have changed EVERYTHING.

One big thing has been to make sure that there will be a lift in the hotel. This is important as we are building the hotel up to 6 storeys high and maybe even with a roof terrace.

The process is a huge task, but it's also super exciting because we can make our own mark right from the start. Just getting the building materials shipped to the island is a major task. We can't just drive to the Stark DIY store and pick up what we need.

The layout of the rooms

We will have 6 floors with an expected 7 rooms per floor. Balconies for as many rooms as possible are also in our priorities and thoughts.

We might have connecting doors in some of the rooms so that 4-5 people can be together. That way you can stay together as a family, something we have lacked and often needed during our own family travels. Otherwise, the rooms are for 2-3 people.

The style itself will be cosy, with a mix of Danish functionality, easy-to-clean and natural materials from the East and Indonesia. You wouldn't believe how many details you have to consider in this process, pyhhaaa... It's no small thing πŸ˜…

As you can see, there's still a bit to go. But everyone is working hard to create the most cosy Danish hotel on Maafushi.

Bakery and restaurant

Our hotel will of course have its own bakery - as a master baker in Lystrup, we can bring an expertise to the hotel that our guests will enjoy.

We are also building a restaurant where we will serve dinner dishes that will be a mix of Danish and local cuisine as well as delicious non-alcoholic cocktails.

We source the best ingredients and work closely with suppliers on the island. Delicious non-alcoholic cocktails and smoothies will also be part of what we serve. Temperatures are high in the Maldives, so hydration is important.

When you arrive at Oceana Paradise, we expect your package to include breakfast.

When construction is a little further along, we'll update this page with new photos.
