About the local island, Keyodhoo
Keyodhoo is a relatively small, charming island located in the Vaavu Atoll in the Maldives, approximately 75 kilometres south of MalΓ©. The island has a population of around 700-800 inhabitants, most of whom make their living from fishing and tourism. Keyodhoo has an area of approximately 0.2 square kilometres. The island is about 700 metres long and 250 metres wide, making it possible to walk around the island in a short time. There are a few restaurants around the island, as well as an ATM π΅π°
Even though it's a local island and you're not allowed to consume alcohol, they still have shot glasses? The shot glass contains slushice, but without alcohol. In addition, they have a sign at the same restaurant that reads: "Drink first, think later", which can be a bit misleading, but you're still not allowed to drink alcohol as it's a local island. See the picture below πΉπΉπ»π₯
Although small, Keyodhoo is densely populated with small streets, local shops, guesthouses and a mosque. The rest of the island consists of white sandy beaches and lush vegetation. However, they are more strict on this island in terms of dress. dress code as they are not so used to tourists. When we were here with Shadowpalm on a trip, some people were told to cover up more.
In the Maldives, they're quite keen on football and therefore it's also possible to find the Danish flag and some others on the island. The world sometimes feels small, but it's also amazing that one sport can bring so many people together and create a community.
Unlike the more touristy islands of the Maldives, Keyodhoo has an authentic and relaxed atmosphere where visitors can experience the local lifestyle up close π
