About the local island, Guraidhoo

Guraidhoo is a charming local island located in the South Malé Atoll in the Maldives. You can see Guraidhoo from the local island, Maafushi, where we are currently building the hotel. See the bottom picture on the blog post. The island is also known for its authentic fishing experiences, good waves (for surfing). On Guraidhoo there is a really good and large bikini beach, which is not very touristy.

Guraidhoo is ideal for those who want to experience local life in the Maldives or just some different surroundings than what you might be "used" to on other local or resort islands. On Guraidhoo you can try your hand at fishing, snorkelling at the nearby coral reefs, surfing or simply relaxing on the white sandy beaches. 🏄🏼‍♀️🏄🏼‍♂️

There are 1,800 inhabitants on the island. It is approximately 700 metres long and 500 metres wide. However, it varies slightly depending on the the tides. It is possible to take a day trip to Guraidhoo from Maafushi. The trip is very short and takes about 10 min. by speedboat.

As a local island, Guraidhoo is characterised by Maldivian culture and traditions. Visitors are encouraged to respect local customs, including appropriate dress outside the bikini beaches and respect for religious practices. Just like on Maafushi. It's also important to note that alcohol is not available on the local islands, including Guraidhoo.🍹🍻🥂🇲🇻

We have visited Guraidhoo several times, including the time we handed out LEGOs to the school, but also just as "normal tourists" and enjoyed the beach. We have to say that it is well worth the experience and the sandy bottom was just amazing.we went there on a Friday, when many of the locals had the day off and were down on the beach enjoying themselves 😍
